Auri is a fourth-year general surgery resident at Duke University and a postdoctoral research fellow at the David Lab, which she joined in July 2023. At the lab, she uses a mouse model of fecal diversion to understand host-microbe interactions during low-nutrient conditions, with the ultimate goal of developing microbiome-targeting therapeutics for patients with fecal diversion or intestinal starvation. Auri grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico, but moved in 2012 to pursue a combination M.D. and Ph.D program at the University of Massachusetts, where she studied the development of the nematode C. elegans as a model to identify and characterize host-microbe-drug interactions. Outside the lab (and the hospital wards), she enjoys pilates, home improvement projects, and pretending to like golf with her amazing husband.
