Jun Zeng

Jun is a Ph.D. student in Duke University’s Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology. He started his graduate program in 2019 and joined the David Lab in 2020 to research how dietary nutrients could modify the invasion ecology of human colonic microbiota. Originally from Shenzhen, China, Jun moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington, where he earned his B.S. in both microbiology and biology. His undergraduate research project focused on Type VI secretion system-mediated interbacterial antagonism, which led to the discovery of the first double-stranded DNA deaminase ever reported. At the David Lab, Jun continues to explore how bacteria interact with each other and their environment. Outside the lab, he enjoys cooking, spending time with his girlfriend, and watching soccer matches.
